In a number if former French colonies the schools teach still in French.
However the people speak a number of dialects. In Mali you have Bambara,peul, dogon and malinke etc.To follow their studies the children speak French in their homes,in the streets they speak the dialect of their community.
Mali was my first trip as a volunteer, this choice changed my life.

My first student Sekouba Sidibe, originally from the Ivory coast. Fleeing a toxic home life he arrived at Bamako under difficult conditions. He spoke very good French but couldn't read. This made a few complicated moments and laughs. But I was amazed by his progress
